    Summary

Kaveh has a very, very embarrassing problem.

As Kaveh sweeps the floor, he watches Alhaitham from the corner of his eye. Alhaitham sits on the divan, book in hand and eyes trained on the page. His hand deftly touches the edge and flips it.

A shiver goes down Kaveh’s spine.

    That. That is the problem.

Kaveh has A Thing for Alhaitham, especially when he’s reading.

    Summary

They’ve had what Kaveh calls the ‘fungus conversation’ several times now. It started as a joke about the architect somehow devolving into a fungus, but Kaveh insisted on bringing it up again every so often, repeatedly claiming that at least he would be a fungus with empathy.

    Meanwhile Alhaitham, presumably, would not.

Kaveh’s insistence on this point seems strange, not least of all because Alhaitham thought he knew him better than that.

When Alhaitham denies yet another funding proposal and pisses off a handful of researchers, he ends up turned into a fungus. Kaveh's presence inevitably makes things a bit better, even if the two of them can't - now, quite literally - communicate.

    Summary

You see, Alhaitham has long since accepted that there were certain immutable facts of life.

The sky is blue. Sumeru is the land of Dendro. Kaveh is the most beautiful person in all of Teyvat.

These were foregone conclusions for anyone who had the clarity to see them.

So when he looks up to see that same Kaveh, the one that he knows like the back of his own hand, older, more elegant, and more settled than ever before, he feels short of breath. The hair he’s so used to has grown long past his shoulders and settles like liquid gold across his lithe back. Soft carmine eyes look at the two of them with a mixture of alarm, shock, and perhaps some fondness. Alhaitham would mention the shortest shorts he’s ever seen, but he’s using all his brain power to not focus on that for fear of embarrassing himself.

When Alhaitham and Kaveh get too close to a strange leyline, they get transported years into the future.

    Summary

“Have you considered designing a new house instead.”

    Kaveh blinked. “What.”

Alhaitham rested his hands lightly on either side of the table, effectively bracketing Kaveh without touching him. His voice remained even, as it always was, but there was something careful in it now.

“A different location,” Alhaitham continued. “Quieter. Less traffic. More space.”
