Remus had been home from Hogwarts for two weeks when a large tropical bird rapped on his window. It was nearly midnight, and he was sitting in his armchair in the corner, staring at the wall and replaying the events of the last thirteen years of his life.
He knew, as soon as he heard the tapping against the glass, what he would find. Or rather, he knew what he hoped he’d find. He’d be lying if he said he hadn’t been waiting for it. Rising, he opened the window to allow the bright orange and turquoise bird to fly inside.

Regulus feels like the breath has been punched out of his lungs. “Well,” he says, smirking but it’s half-hearted. “You must be the only one.” He turns to go, to storm away, but a hand grips his forearm and whips him back around.
