She didn't mean to say it, the words left her lips before she could fully finish the thought but it was too late. She could see how her words froze between them.
“Wha- no. Why would you ask me that?”
Story inspired by a wonderfully good Gallavich fanfic I read many many years ago by the same title and it has stuck with me, mixed with a little real life experience.

When his eyes finally met hers he noticed they looked darker, pupils blown to the very edge of fresh dark earth. They had an extra haziness to them, making her look unfocused, the slight scrunch of her brows making her look confused as she gazed at him with half lidded eyes.
Three times Hermione enters sub space and one time Draco knows what to do about it.

But then the blond to her left snorts a laugh and her head whips toward him. He’s smirking, though the glint in his pale eyes is conspiratorial, not mean. Without looking away, his hands move and then her mobile is buzzing again.
She looks down

“You-” He tried to word it as eloquently as possible for her, something smart and poetic and tragic. “For fucks sake-” But he was failing miserably as he looked her in the face and just said; “You don’t just deserve nice.”
Her small frame faltered for a moment, her arms in that wooly coat she wore pulling it tighter around her, camel coloured scarf scrunching against her chest.
“Oh?” Now she just looked affronted. Fucking hell, he wasn’t explaining himself well at all here, was he? “And tell me, what exactly is it that I deserve? Pity? Brutality? Someone who will treat me like absolute shit and take me for granted?” She looked ferociously sexy as she berated him, a gloved finger poking him in the chest. “Is that what you think I deserve?”
He looked down at said finger, eyebrow raised.
“No.”“Then tell me, Malfoy.” she spat, inching closer to him and poking him harder. “Tell me what I deserve.”
