Kris didn’t come with them to Castle Town, but Noelle began to see them everywhere she looked. The way the darkners talked to each other, the stories they all told of their adventures. Everything here painted a brilliant, shining picture of the Kris she saw that day in the computer lab. The same Kris she knew when they were kids. The Kris she missed every day since Dess disappeared.

Summary
Many years after her disappearance, December Holiday returns. But she isn’t the same, and she isn’t whole. Her body is twisted by her time in the dark, leaving her all but chained to it. She and her mother need Kris’ help to return her to the way she was and thwart the Angel’s Prophecy in the process. They don’t hesitate to agree, but in order to help, they need to prepare. They need to become stronger.
These are some of the nights they spend with Dess trying to do just that. At the same time, they do their best to return some semblance of normalcy to her life.
This along with trying to keep their feelings for her, still smoldering after so many years, under wraps.
They are successful at two of those three things.

“Susie, I don’t know what friend-kissing is supposed to be,” Noelle said.
“It’s like. You know,” Susie stumbled, “like if you need to figure out how to kiss or whatever and you got somebody to help you out—and that guy helps you get better at it, it’s like—you know!”
“I-I do?”
“Yeah,” she stressed, “you and Kris used to do it all the time!”
