Summary
"What sort of question is that?" was all Zoro could think to say. "Of course I want to be free."
This seemed to give the captain pause. He looked down at where Zoro's manacled hands were placed on the table, and he studied them for a moment.
"Okay," he said, meeting his eyes. "But Zoro has to make a promise."
...Just like that? The captain was willing to let him go as long as he agreed to do something? The price was likely to be steep, but as long as his freedom was guaranteed, there wasn't much not worth that cost.
"What is it you want?"
The captain's brows furrowed. His lips—usually smiling—were set in a firm line. He drew in a breath, opened his mouth, and what he said, words falling like anchors, was—
"Join my crew!"
Zoro's luck must really be terrible. First Marines, then pirates, and now bounty hunters... The captain was never going to let him live this down...

Summary
"Do you remember?" Luffy asks, once he catches his breath, finds air enough to carry his words. "Our promise?"
Zoro stills at the question, at the rough, reedy quality of his captain's voice. "Which one?" he asks. He'd made a lot of promises. Not all he'd kept.
Luffy laughs again, a quiet, pained huff, his eyes crinkling. The thin scar follows in a gentle arc. "The first."
?You're pretty strong, aren't you
"Yes," he says.
.I'm only doing this to accomplish my dream
"I remember."
He could never forget.

Summary
"Me and you," she says, and in that moment, in all the world, there is no one else. "The two of us will be the greatest." Her eyes find his, and he sees that her smile is there, but it's a wan thing. "So, hurry up and get better, yeah?"
It's a promise. The same one, really, so the answer is obvious.
