She’s two years younger than him, and small for her age in a way that system kids always are. Her prized possession is a stuffed rabbit who’s half her size, ratty in a way that screams well loved. Eliot didn’t have to ask to know the bunny was one of the few things she had to her name through multiple different homes. She's skittish and crazy and Eliot is obsessed with everything about her in the way six year old boys are obsessed with new things out in front of them.

The month of December, Shayne has learned, is the hardest for Damien.
There is a certain amount of tack that is required to navigate around someone who celebrates Halloween instead of Christmas. Shayne knows there is a reason -- one written on a memorial card that is tucked in a picture collage on the wall in Damien’s bedroom. The December 25th that passed nearly a fifteen years ago is -- was -- the worst day of Damien’s life and frankly that sucks considering Shayne loves Christmas more than any other holiday.

House expects a curt nod, or maybe a correction to his mom. He doesn’t expect Chase to open his mouth and say, “I mean, no one really? I just kinda taught myself with stuff I found in books.”
House is surprised but his magic aches. Fathers are meant to teach sons, just as mothers are meant to teach daughters, parents are meant to teach the in between. Not that his father taught him, his father didn’t have magic so it was his mother who taught House the start of what he knew. He taught himself the rest -- just like this kid.

In the oncology department, the girl — Mac? Mackenzie? — is exactly where House said she’d be. Behind the nurses station reading patients' files; she’s organizing them into piles and making notes on sticky notes with a ballpoint pen, then sticking them in charts. The girl is sitting crossed leg on the counter, pink stockings and blue skirt fanned out around her with the sleeves of her Hello Kitty t-shirt bunched around her elbows.
The girl looks up and says, “Can I finish first?”
Cameron blinks a couple of times, “I think Dr. Wilson is worried?”
Or the Ducklings find out that House and Wilson have a daughter named Mac, who really just wants to read medical textbooks and patients charts.

There’s Lily, Shane’s Boston girl, but Hayden has no idea her number, where she lives, or what she looks like. She’ll have no way of finding Shane, of being there when he wakes up high and afraid, because he never did well with being out of control. Lily won’t be there. His parents won’t be there.
It’s the easiest decision he’s ever made.
Hayden skates off the rink, barely pausing as he starts stripping off his gear. Coach surges forward, lips curled up with some order to get back out there, no doubt. He doesn’t give him the chance, “I’m not leaving him. I go where he goes.”
And that’s that.

It was during this hysterical lament that Ilya realized what was wrong, what was off. The initial softness, the confusion, the vulnerability. It was out of character — Shane was so often in control of himself, of what he said, even when emotions were high . . . with one exception.
If Ilya fucked him particularly . . . intensely, if he got Shane feeling a lot, he'd get soft afterwards. Quiet, a little ditzy, emotional. The first time it'd happened — or the first time he'd recognized it — was years ago in Las Vegas after winning MVP. He remembered the look on Hollander's face when he left — wide and tear-eyed, lip trembling, tripping over himself.
Since then, with a little trial and error, Ilya had learned how to manage it. Had grown to love it. If he treated him right, he could buff away all of Shane's sharp edges and be left with the soft, gooey inside. Floating and tethering himself to Ilya.
Now, Shane was out there, floating, without anyone to tether himself to. Falling. And suddenly Ilya was panicking, too.
or: shane, trying to get over rozanov, has sex with someone else and and falls into subdrop. scared and confused, he calls ilya.

No one is going to win a Pulitzer interviewing him, and Shane is okay with that. He spends most interviews rephrasing the same five sentiments--I’m happy we won or We need to work harder after that loss.
They are a good team; the win was hard fought or They are a good team; there is a lot for us to take away.
And finally: I love playing on this team, for our fans.
Then Ilya Rozanov bursts into his life, and answering questions becomes a little more complicated.
