Summary
“I want a chance to earn my friend back.” He took a cautious step into the room. “I am whole-heartedly sorry for what I said! It was stupid and careless, and I wish I could undo it. Please let me make it up to you, to get us back to the confidence we shared before that thoughtless mistake?”
Her eyes hardened. “There is no going back, Colin.” She folded her arms across her chest. “I never asked you to court me-”
“I know, I-”
“I have not finished!”
Colin gaped at her. Pen could be sharp in her witticisms, and he now knew she could be vindictive and cold when wounded. But he’d never seen her speak with such self-possession before. He bowed his head apologetically and gestured for her to continue.

An alternative S3 based on the synopsis. Aimed to have it completed before S3 was released but took too long. It was fully plotted but only half-written when the show was released, so occasional influence from the show has crept in but I try to minimise this. Probably now a bit of 'fix fic' (sort of) for those who wanted it to take longer to rebuild their relationship, more Colin perspective, a different placing of the Whistledown reveal, and some Colin and Pen against the world! :-)

Summary
At Penelope's 30th Birthday celebration at Aubrey Hall, some unexpected news throws her for a loop. This causes her to divulge her greatest wish to the man she trusts most, leading to a conversation that ends up changing both of their lives.
-----------
“And you are going to start a fire on the carpet with your frantic pacing. What is wrong?”
There was a plan, she had a plan, exact, nice words that were carefully chosen to save embarrassment if it came to it. Such a pity it was when they were completely abandoned when she looked up and straight into his stormy blue eyes, blurting out exactly the thing that had been swirling around her mind all night.
“I wish to be a mother, and I wish for you to help me”
