Whitley makes a point to be the life of any party he hosts, and a scintillating conversation partner for any event he graces. He is charming, refined, and occasionally magnanimous. He does not take breaks, especially not for something held in his honor.
Ruby does not listen to his explanation, and her grip is far stronger than expected for a person of her stature as she steers him into the kitchen.

Ruby stared at the odd sight of drapery in front of her. Several bed sheets were artistically and haphazardly thrown about the room. She eased her way inside and, to no one’s surprise but her observers’ dismay, tripped over an obscured obstacle and found herself in a cocoon.
“Oh shit! Ruby!” came a familiar voice before hands began pawing at her prison. Ruby attempted to help and mostly succeeded at punching a nose.

Avid looked around, whispering, “You-You were nervous about Scott thinking we were working together, so I said we should pretend I was holding you hostage! So it looked like we were still enemies!”
“You what?!” Pyro shouted, uncaring if someone heard his frustrated yelling.
“I don’t know!” Avid squeaked. “I panicked!”
“That’s—“ But the longer Pyro thinks about it, the more he holds hope it might work. But… no, this would be betrayal, and he must not betray his Sire! But if it does, he could speak to Apo—or the doctor—he could find a cure. This would be the second time he lied. There is no home to return to with the humans, Sire is correct. He always is. But he doesn’t…
