Veronica is incredibly anxious about flying home to California for Christmas, both because she hates flying and because it's been years since the last time she suffered through a difficult holiday experience full of family drama. Having to sit next to the psycho who almost wasn't allowed on the plane because he maybe claimed to have a bomb just about puts her over the edge...until it turns out that the suspected bomber is just as anxious about the flight as she is.
Spencer learned long ago the value of a properly-timed dose of Xanax to help him get through a flight, especially when his nerves are as threadbare as they've been lately. Too bad the Xanax makes him weird(er) and nearly gets him put on a no-fly list. Sitting next to a beautiful girl who is just as anxious as he is feels like he's been thrown a life preserver in a storm...which is maybe why he comes up with the terrible idea to offer himself as Veronica's fake boyfriend for her family's Christmas weekend. It can't make things worse...right?

Bucky is at the very end of his rope, or at least he would be if he had a rope. He doesn't actually have anything but the clothes on his back and he's about an hour away from either starving or freezing to death and, seeing as it was his boyfriend who left him on the streets because he was too messed-up to bother with, that's probably just fine.
Finding a guy almost dead in an alley is NOT fine in Darcy's book, especially when that guy is a freaking veteran and the freaking nicest guy ever and when he was abandoned by his freaking asshole boyfriend. Nope, not fine at all. Jane is going to lecture her so hard about how this guy isn't a puppy, he's a strange man who might shank her...but those baby blues are the sweetest puppy-dog eyes Darcy has ever seen, so yeah, she's bringing this guy home, throwing him in her tub to warm him up, feeding him, and snuggling him for days. And if he needs her to give him a sponge bath or share body heat or tase his ex or...well, just about anything...yeah, that is TOTALLY fine.

When Jack Benjamin took over after his father's near-assassination, he thought he was, you know, taking over. Instead, he's been used as a puppet by a warmonger (again), realized that said warmonger has everything he could possibly need to politically destroy Jack if he doesn't comply (again), and is once again seeing that he royally screwed everything up and needs to fix this if he doesn't want to watch his country burn. Lucky for him, David Shepherd was too stubborn to cut his losses and bail on Jack because he wants to save Gilboa too...and he'd make a perfect king. Jack just needs to get them out of Shiloh in one piece, pull off a second coup, dial back that reflex to shoot something every time he thinks of how stupidly perfect David is for kingship, and try not to screw or murder David (also known as his sister's perfect, straight boyfriend...and God's chosen king). What could possibly go wrong?
The Kings fix-it where Jack Benjamin and plenty of other characters are way more useful than they were in canon, where David Shepherd is actually not perfect, straight, or Michelle's boyfriend, and where Jack is so sick of all these Emotions and has absolutely nowhere to go with them.

Bucky Barnes was just trying to focus on getting his brain to recognize his name again while he drove as far from D.C. and Hydra as he could. It was finally feeling just safe enough to accept that he really needed a beer that had him stopping in a small town bar in Indiana, where a very fierce former fighter pilot named Peyton Lawfley decided to buy him his second beer and put some direction back in his life. One beer became several rounds of beer and shots, which became a place to crash and by the next day, Bucky was sitting in her dad's engine repair garage watching her work and scaring off the guys she was sick of turning down. Bucky knew he was terrible material for a boyfriend, fake or real, but when he tried to explain that to Peyton, she only gave him that smirk and said, "I'm a pilot. I see death threats as dares." True to form and much to Bucky's dismay, every time Peyton learned of one of the terrifying aspects of his life, she not only didn't flinch, she moved in closer, putting herself in very real danger should Hydra find him. It's hard to do the chivalrous thing and walk away when the girl is insanely beautiful, entirely fearless, and unashamedly into you, though....

They both seem to have vanished with only traces that weeks later he's still figuring out how to read, traces of Hydra bases and operatives being destroyed and of human trafficking rings being laid bare and their leaders killed. He knows that Bucky needs him to help remember and understand his past, to help keep him safe from Hydra. And he knows that Natasha is now more alone than she's ever been with all her covers blown and everyone she's ever hurt gunning for her. He wants them back and prays that when he does find them, he'll be able to bring them home.
