Pau diam seolah sedang dimarahi induknya ketika Hector melanjutkan, "I woke up with a still sore shoulder on a random Tuesday and opened Twitter and my boyfriend is all over my timeline and he's bald."

Dean kira dia akan menemukan Arda sendirian, dengan mata kosongnya yang selalu Dean lihat jika dia kecewa dengan hasil akhir pertandingan, termenung menatap jalanan yang sudah mulai sepi atau mungkin Dean bahkan tak akan menemukannya sama sekali. Arda bisa saja memilih untuk mengunci diri di dalam kamar dan menelan pahit sendirian seperti biasa.
Tapi tidak, Dean menemukannya. Di trotoar sepi, diapit dua gedung tinggi dengan lampu jalan keemasan yang terlihat remang menyorot wajahnya, dengan punggung menyandar ke tembok dan dua tangan yang sembunyi kedinginan di saku jaketnya.

Selain tinggal di kelas mana dan siapa teman sebangkunya, Hector tidak tahu apa-apa soal Pau dan kehidupan sekolahnya; berapa nilai ulangan hariannya, apa yang biasa ia pesan di kantin saat istirahat, jadwal piketnya, atau siapa guru yang paling membuatnya kesulitan. Gedung kelas mereka berjauhan, tiap angkatan juga punya fasilitas masing-masing (kantin, kolam renang indoor, lapangan olahraga), satu-satunya kesempatan Hector dan Pau melihat satu sama lain adalah ketika mereka berbaris untuk upacara bendera— sekali dalam seminggu. Pau biasanya akan mencari kepala Guiu terlebih dahulu (karena dia tinggi) sebelum akhirnya menemukan mata Hector dan keduanya akan berbarengan melempar senyum.
Pagi ini juga seharusnya seperti itu, Hector pikir. Jadi ketika melihat Pau malah bercanda dengan orang (perempuan) yang namanya bahkan belum pernah Hector dengar sebelumnya, sebungkus roti stroberi dan sekresek gorengan yang pagi ini Hector telan seolah ingin keluar lagi dari perutnya.

He doesn’t need to look to know Gavi did what he was too afraid to do himself. Gavi always does. I don’t care about meeting halfway, it’s like he’s communicating in Morse code through this simple point of contact, where his ear meets Pedri’s collarbone. I’ll swim the whole distance if it’s for you.
Pedri’s got everything under control, and he’s certainly not about to break down.
