There was silence on the other end of the line. It lasted so long that Steve pulled the receiver away from his ear and frowned at it. Pay phones were old. Maybe this one wasn’t working despite the obvious dial tone when he picked up.
“Ok,” a stranger’s voice said over the phone. “First acknowledge the fact that you dialed the wrong number, but be quick about it because my cab is a few blocks away from my own plans and I’m about to drop some truth bombs on you.”

“I have an idea!” Kevin exclaimed from where he was sitting at their kitchen table, the absolutely disgusting kale smoothie in front of him—Neil had no idea how he could drink such an abomination every morning—already half empty.
As soon as he heard that, Neil whirled around, leaving the kitchen before Kevin could get another word in. Kevin scrambled up to follow him, blindly grabbing his sorry excuse of a breakfast and spilling some of it over his hand in his haste to follow Neil.
Neil shot him a glare over his shoulder. Kevin’s kale smoothies were not something Neil wanted to deal with at 7 in the morning.
Kevin with an idea was worse.
