Kai and Cole stared at each other for a few moments, the only sound being the gentle gusts of wind through the courtyard and their breathing. Kai could feel his face getting warm, and Cole saved him the humility of accidentally setting himself on fire by getting off of him.
“I’m, what, four wins ahead, now?” Cole asked with a smug smile, helping him to his feet.
“Three, actually,” Kai corrected, brushing off the front of his gi. “And come on, you could carry me with one hand. I’d say it’s pretty good for me to be losing by only three.”

She wasn’t sure how long the onslaught of pure mystic energy was tearing at her, but it suddenly cut off after a few moments. The sudden absence of pain stunned her, and it felt like her grip on existing was slipping.
“Oh, thank everything,” came a strangely familiar voice in her mind, that sounded like it was coming through a thick blanket. “Leo would never let me live it down if I manage to kill myself by accident.”

A strike was aimed for his face; he managed to dodge. The brass knuckles skimmed his cheek, but nothing worse. His ribs throbbed, but he still spun his nunchaku and when his opponent lunged in for another hit, caught their arm in the chain and slammed them into the arena floor.
The crowd groaned in sympathy, but the dragonfly was up and darting around the arena before they finished.
He could feel the ratcheting increase of alertness as the adrenaline began flowing through his body. He hit the switch in one of his nunchaku handles and the blade popped out, and he hit the switch on the other end that held the chain extensions. The chains pooled onto the arena floor as his opponent sped around the arena at dizzying speeds.
