Summary
A vase of fading silk roses unfurled their petals. The summer sun seared the air. The petrichor scent of warm, drying grave dust mingled with the cloying fake rose scent clinging to the fabric as they both warred, and lost, against the overwhelming smell of freshly cut grass.
Puffy clouds lazed about. Derek watched them, watched the trees, watched the way the graveyard looked in the sun for the first time since high school.
The fake flower scent drew his eyes back to last week's rose, left in the dead of night, still clinging to its colors beneath the inevitable bleaching light of the sun.
In which acknowledges the darkness of his past and recalls the events of 'Gas Station Roses' before embracing the present and moving towards the happiness of his future.

Stiles stares at the ceiling, completely flabbergasted. Derek Hale wants him. For real. This isn’t another Lydia situation, where he needs to pine and slowly try to work his way in from the edges of someone’s life.
Derek likes him already. Derek is nice to him. Derek answers his questions and his texts and buys him magical things.
He presses a hand against the spot Derek bit and shivers. That action had felt kind of wolfy, like Derek forgot to pretend to be a human man. Maybe that’s it, then, for Derek. Stiles is someone he doesn’t have to pretend to be human with. Maybe after summer ends, after Boyd and Erica are safely corralled in Beacon Hills, Derek will go back to fucking women like Tina or whatever that chick’s name was.
Stiles isn’t complaining. He’ll take what he can get.

“It’s 2 A.M.,” Derek says. “What are you doing here?”
Stiles turns to him with raised eyebrows. “We haven’t finished Harry Potter,” he says, as if it’s obvious, and Derek just stares at him. “I mean, if you don’t want to know what happens with Fluffy and the dragon, fine. But I personally think that the plot only gets better from here."
(In which Derek and Stiles are both broken, but it takes a few paperback novels for them to realize that it makes them fit together just right.
A post-3B Canon Divergence, based on comment that said someone needs to sit Derek down on a couch and read him a nice book.)

Obviously this was written years before we knew JK Rowling was a TERF and objectively terrible person, but I want to apologize anyways that the book used is Harry Potter. “What happened to all that genius of yours, Stilinski?” Lydia is snuggled up in the curve of Jackson’s arm, apple held daintily in her manicured fingertips. There is nothing dainty about the bite she takes out of it.
If Stiles has learned anything over the past two years, it’s that you should absolutely look a gift horse in the mouth, because the horse probably isn’t a horse at all, or if it is, it’s got fangs or halitosis or secret powers or something else that will fuck up Stiles’ day. He’s also crazy hungry, though, and the sandwich is like…a real sandwich, with two different kinds of meat and cheese and lettuce.

Summary
So Stiles found a spell. He's not telling Derek about it; the man will just stop him before he has a chance to use it. But if it works, which it will, because Stiles is good at magic, especially when it's for something he cares about, it'll give Derek a couple days of pain relief and all will be fine and dandy for the time being.
Stiles is so okay with sacrifices, so very okay, even moreso when they concern his husband, and he's been searching like a madman for some way to give Derek a break for the past year. So it's easy to bookmark the spell from the vintage book he found in the Hale vault last night. It's easy to plan it out and gather the materials and prepare to be in pain himself, for once. It's easy to help Derek.
