Summary
Mary Bennet has spent most of her life being rational, useful for her family and being good at avoiding unnecessary risks.
Moving to London for a six-month graduate paralegal programme is supposed to be the beginning of something different. So when Mary attends a networking reception the weekend before her first day, argues with an attractive lawyer about Wordsworth, drinks slightly more wine than intended and kisses him in a side room, Mary knew that some risks were almost fun to take.
That is until Monday morning, when she realizes Thomas Hayward was the lawyer she kissed.
And her new boss.

Summary
Tom has an issue. He may or may not have accidentally told people that he has spoken for Miss Bennet, even though they are only friends. He blames this on the fact that she deserves much more than to be courted by the available suitors of London, and not of the strange feeling he gets from thinking of her with another man.

Mary is determined to help her friend out when she hears of how Mr Hayward needs to be engaged to be married in order to be able to advance in his career. She understands how a solid home-life is important for a barrister, and so she steps up to be his pretend fiancé. When embarking on their anonymous email experiment, The Rules that TinternAbbeys and MrsMacaulayKnowsAll had set up were very clear:
1. No personally identifying information of any kind
2. No looking the other person up at all
3. No texts/calls/meeting in person
4. These messages are a way to reclaim a dying form of communication, so at least try to keep to some level of etiquette - it’s the correspondence that’s the point!Rule number four is easy to follow. The other three, less so…especially after Tom Hayward and Mary Bennet meet for (what they think is) the very first time.

Due to a misunderstanding between the pair, things get worse and soon both Mary and Tom are longing for something in their marriage they are both too awkward to bring up.
