"Chee'hr…"
"Oh," Dick's voice sounds heartbroken. "No, sweetheart."
Tim can only let out a pained sob.
He will never experience that warmth again.
Hands move to cradle his head and a body pushes against the side of the Medbay cot.
"Shh…" Dick whispers. He rests his chin upon Tim’s head, holding them together protectively. "You can cry. You can sleep."
And so he cries until exhaustion rules and he can’t keep the tears running any longer.

Summary
Bruce stands shell-shocked, his glare slowly becoming something more brittle, "Excuse me?"
Watching Bruce's defences slowly come up again only makes Jason more annoyed, and before he can think better of it, the words start pouring out of him, "I've been inside your head. You think I'm Dick but — but I'm not! So would you stop trying to use me as his replacement!"
The damage is done. Jason's been opened up on the dissection table for everyone in the training room to see his erratically beating heart. He can feel frustrated tears build behind his eyes, something like shame burning his throat.
"You're right, you're not my son," Bruce whispers after his violent silence, "And I most certainly am not your father."
(Bruce has bigger problems than aliens trying to end the world; Dick's not talking to him, Tim's trying to build a nuclear robot, and now, there's Jason.)
