The hand he took that night was small, but so very warm. And the hug he was given in the carriage was reminiscent of how his sister would comfort him when the night was too dark. The child spoke of many promises to train him, to become his mentor, and to make him invincible. Stronger he will be, and he will find all of those who had dared take away everything he had ever known. Anger was an emotion that used to be foreign in his heart, but now it wraps around him like chains, digging into his skin and branding him so he may never forget his reason for existence.
He survived. Therefore, he must pay for it with his life.

“Felt like it,” he responds with a lilt that makes her frown deeply, and then he shuts the fridge with a little grin. “Either way, going to the gym is finally paying off. I ate Mydei out while carrying him on my shoulders.”
Cipher’s face immediately drops into a scowl. She stares at his back silently while he pours his own cup—she’s already appalled by the fact he drinks it black—and waits carefully to respond until he’s turned around. “Oh, right, because I was totally wondering,” she grumbles, and he only laughs softly at her, “So disgusting… I didn’t need to know that—Titans, ew!”

Again, Phainon thinks of the appreciative smiles Mydei freely gives the other Heirs, or his people, or the travelers beyond the sky; how he himself mostly gets frowned eyebrows and teasing smirks.
He’s not jealous, no. He just- Okay. Maybe he’s a little jealous. So he says, stupidly, because Mydei would never indulge now, battle-worn and still running high on adrenaline:
“I merely believe a 'Thank you' is in order.”
Mydeimos stares like Phainon has just grown a second head.

Summary
Friendless and struggling, freshman university student Mydeimos refuses to quit, refuses to ask for help, and most of all, refuses to show her pathetic side to one person who will pay attention to her. It all comes to a head when, after hitting rock bottom, she impulsively takes in a blue-eyed dog (?) that she found injured on the side of the road.
Surely nothing life-changing will come out of this, right?
