Summary
“What’s going on?” Robby asked simply after a minute, stooping just an inch in a half-hearted attempt to catch Langdon’s eye. Langdon felt Robby trying to reach him and found himself looking away, pointed and young and petulant.
“You know what’s fucking going on,” he muttered, digging under one fingernail with another, desperate from some distraction from this conversation, from that question. What was going on was that Langdon had fucked up, majorly. There was more than that beneath the surface, of course; nothing was that simple, here. But Robby knowing the details wouldn’t make this any better.
Robby sucked in through his teeth at that, straightening his back. Langdon couldn’t see it, but he knew the smile he was probably wearing now, crooked and tight as hell. “I don’t know why you think now is the right time to give me attitude,” he said, low and controlled. “I’ve been covering for your ass out there for half an hour.”
Langdon struggles to get back on his feet after a tough loss in the ER. Robby helps. (Or, Robby and Langdon hook up in a supply closet—kind of.)

Summary
Langdon and Robby would talk about everything and nothing, the younger man a seemingly endless font of energy and questions that Robby tried to answer—why had he gone into medicine and where he was born and what his family was like and if he had ever considered a different path.
“I feel like there was never anything else for me,” Langdon said, answering his own question before giving Robby a chance to speak, staring into his own eyes in the mirrored wall behind the bar. “Like I was born to do this.”
“Yeah,” Robby replied, scanning Langdon’s face in the mirror, through brown bottles of brandy. “A lot of young doctors say that.”
Langdon, a bright R1 in PTMC's emergency department, starts joining Robby on his early morning post-bar walks. Robby doesn't know what his game is. (Or, how Robby started having sex with his favorite resident.)

"You fucking brat,” Robby murmured. The hand pointing into Langdon’s chest shifted to the back of his head, almost but not quite pulling his hair. Robby was staring at his mouth, and he licked his lips to watch Robby’s eyes darken.
“Can I kiss you?” Langdon breathed.
“You’d better.”
In 2023, Langdon and Robby realize that they need each other more than they thought.
