FREAKITY MY BELOVED!! (First time bookmarking a fic OR receiving a gift, kind of nervous)

This fic has me feeling quite nostalgic! There were many times as a kid I just didn't come home bc I thought no-one cared or would even notice, and while they didn't call the police or anything (despite the actual HOURS I was absent), my mother did tell me she was freaking out and surprisingly close to dialling them! Like whoa… she would call the cops… for me?? 🤯 Her?? It reminded little me that, despite her flaws, she is still a mother, and despite everything, I am her child. Deep down she does love me in her own way, even if she failed to show it in ways that were understandable to a young little broken brain. (Just because I wasn't #1 priority doesn't mean I wasn't a priority of hers at all :) haha, gotta take what you can get!)

I imagine she is like Verity, here, traumatized in her own way from her own past, finding a new purpose in her child (it's complicated) while battling her own deep-rooted trauma/unhealed childhood wounds, emotional scars from loss, grief and neglect (though Verity is much healthier regarding the topic of emotion and offering comfort here), in fact, I have caught her worrying about me like that even recently, it astounds me every time!

it must be so scary to not be able to contact/locate a person when you're usually able to track them (in my moms case, I was always home or at a designated place like elementary school, and once I was old enough to get one, I'd always answer her calls, but my phone was dead during that time recently, and I suppose I was pretty injured so maybe that kept me at the forefront of her mind, aside from her being alone and scared. Not being able to see your kid is a common fear among parents, the world is quite unsafe and cruel at times. But my mom has similar complexes to Verity, I think my experiences help me write my own stuff too).

It still comes as a shock to me… wonder if freakity felt it like I had then, to discover you're loved, noticed, alive, wanted? that maybe things aren't that bad, that wow maybe my presence actually means something to someone other than “ugh another mouth to feed” “annoying extra dead weight burden”?? They would be sad if I was gone? They're not acting like they'd be better off without me…? Like yeah, the slight guilt of having doubted it in the first place does eat up the child inside, but feeling seen for once, it is alien, still is, it hurts just as much as it comforts, the psyche is complicated, , and healing is a long and difficult process, especially when the scars come from early life like freakity.

Anyway w story lol I like it

    Oversharing final boss 😆
