Summary
The first impression that penetrates into Hanush's brain is—blond. Blond, bright, golden hair, shining in the sunlight like a cherub's halo. Disappointment stings Hanush's heart, more acute for catching him unprepared. There's nothing of the Leipa blood in the boy's countenance, no echo of the father, of the many and varied cousins. No, from top to bottom, the verdict is clear: Hans is his mother's spitting image.
—
It's 1390, and Hanush realises exactly how hard it is to raise a child that's not your own.

Summary
Henry dodges the foot that Hans aims at his head with a triumphant laugh, trying to grab at that ankle too, but Hans twists in his grip. His cheeks are pink with both laughter and outrage.
“Henry, really, this isn’t dignified for a knight.”
Henry grins. “Well, lucky I’m not a knight, isn’t it?”
