Rester leaves Near in the doorway of his suite after helping Near unlock the door. Near watches Rester as he turns the corner and goes out of sight before letting himself in. He lets the door shut behind him and starts heading over to his bedroom.
“You forgot to lock the door.”
Near almost jumps out of his damn skin as his head instinctively pivots to the source of the voice.
And before him is an angel, or a miraculous ghost, or a terrible mirage. Leather on leather covering pale skin, silver painted lips, wide and intense eyes, icy blond hair, and the distinct crack of the chocolate bar as his leather covered hands bring it to his mouth. Mello. Mello leaning against his kitchen counter.

Or Mello survives and him and Near have a very emotional reunion.

It’s late. It’s so late it’s probably morning by now. It’s stupid, really, Nico thinks as he’s looking in the mirror. He’s memorizing all the little details his reflection shoots back at him. The three parallel scars on his face, the similar looking set on his bicep, his visible rib cage despite his newfound effort to eat regularly, the dark circle under his eyes, and all the other stereotypical Nico stuff that people point out to him. He didn’t ask for any of this shit, did he? He’s always had this stupid, lanky body covered with other people’s violent handwork, but now he has to parade it around people and now he owns a mirror and he has to look at it to wash his hands. It’s really idiotic.
--Or Nico di Angelo has body image issues and self harms to cope. Will tells him he's been in the same damn boat and they learn something new about each other.

Summary
The sky, if you would call it that, was a dark blue and the black clouds hung lower and moved in strange shapes compared to our Topside Up. These clouds buzzed a single low note into the stale air if you listened close enough. Thick purple veins littered this world and they were slowly retreating from a sinister caricature of the Hawkins trailer park when wet coughs came from the body that laid just outside of it.

Once you leave the city you're gone. You can't escape the freedom of the winds. And then the ghosts and spirits you heard about in lobby alley ways will come for you; speak to you.

“Jason, what are you saying?”
Jason’s lips stretched into a frustrated snarl, as he turned to face Dick in a defensive stature. His arms were crossed to protect his heart, metaphorically and physically.
“Are you stupid Dickface? Did spending too much time around Daddy bat leave you incapacitated of noticing? I’ve been smoking since I was thirteen! I fucking started cutting since I got here!”
Dick’s expression was so painful Jason had to turn away. His eyes were filled with tears, and the heavy lines on his face seemed downturned and weighted immensely with guilt. He didn’t remember his older brother having dark bags as a permanent accessory or seeing the haunted gaze reserved just for him.
Jason wasn’t a ghost, but his family keeps proving that otherwise.

Rico asks, casual, what Mello will want next, what he’ll aim for after he gets the notebook, and suddenly it’s like the ground has dropped out from underneath him, because the first thing that comes to mind is Near. His stomach sinks as he tries to regain some semblance of composure, fighting off imaginings both tender and cruel, furious with himself for being so weak-minded. Near, he thinks forcefully, is in the past. He isn’t an option for what’s to come— and even if he was, Mello wouldn’t want him.

Sometimes, Jason looks in the mirror and he can’t seem to see himself. His hair is too dark, too light, eyes too green, too tired. He’s taller and stronger and colder and he looks nothing like the child he once was. It’s only fair, he supposes, to change as he grows up. Everyone does. He couldn’t stay 15 forever.
Except he could’ve. He wasn’t supposed to come back, wasn’t supposed to crawl out of his grave with dirt beneath his fingers and in his hair and eyes and lungs and—
He wasn’t supposed to come back. Jason Todd was supposed to stay 15 forever, alive only in memories that wouldn’t grow older, though the people carrying them would. His clothes would be folded up and packed away into cardboard boxes, his photographs would grow dust and the flowers on his grave would wilt and disappear.
He was supposed to be forgotten.
