Grandpa, still smiling with hints of affection and pride at his son, spoke up. “She's a prodigy, just like you, Light.” Mom hugged her daughter tightly. “Ah! I'm so proud of my little girl! She's doing great in kindergarten, she's well-mannered and courteous, she's also good at drawing... and she even plays the piano!”
After a few seconds, mom broke away to hug dad. Hikaru watched the scene in confusion, noticing her father's grimace, which disappeared as soon as he met her eyes.
“Light. You're really lucky to have a family like that.” Her grandfather nodded at his own statement, followed by his younger colleague, who exclaimed, almost sobbing. “I think I'm going to cry!” The afro-haired man cupped his eyes in exasperation. “Oh my God, Matsuda, don't start!”

“Fuck, Sam.” He looked back at the lake, unable to hide the shaking in his voice. The moon was bright tonight, reflecting off the surface of the water like one of the drawings his mom used to show him from her hippy days.
With those simple two words, the floodgates broke. “I’m sorry,” Sam choked out, “I don’t know what's wrong with me. It just sort of… Happened, and I tried to fight it, but there’s something different about me, and… I like him Mike. I really do. Those bullies were right, I’m wrong, I’m just a–”
“There is NOTHING wrong with you.” Michael surprised himself with the conviction in his voice, but as soon as he said it, he knew he believed it to be true. This was his little brother, and he’d do anything to protect him. “Look at me Sammy. You’re my brother, and I love you ok? No matter what.”
