"Will, please," he said, his voice softer now. "Don't do this. Don't go without letting me fix us."
"There's nothing to fix," Will replied, but his voice wavered slightly.
"Yes, there is," Mike insisted. "You're my best friend. You've always been my best friend." He swallowed hard, feeling vulnerable in a way he hated. "I don't know how to... be without you."
Will stopped moving, his back still turned to Mike. For a moment, the only sound was the ticking of a clock on the wall.
"I think," Will said finally, so quietly Mike almost missed it, "that maybe you'll have to learn."
Or: Mike tries to fix things between them when he learns about the Byers moving to California, turns out some things aren't so easy to mend. When they're gone he realizes just how much Will means to him.

Summary
Will posted a late night question on X that read, “What’s the thought process of people who are in a relationship who got cheated on but still forgive the person?” The post seemed like a simple question to anyone scrolling past it, but behind the screen, Will’s hands were trembling as he typed.
After posting, he slowly glanced over his shoulder and saw Mike sleeping peacefully, looking almost like a child—completely unaware of what Will was thinking about. Mike had no idea that Will had discovered the secret he had been keeping from him for years.
Will stared at him in silence, caught between anger, heartbreak, and the painful question he had just asked the internet: Could he ever forgive someone he loved for betraying him?

"Is this close enough for you?"
Both of Mike's arms wrap firmly around Will's waist, pulling him entirely flush against his own body. "No… Not really."
Will rises up slightly on his toes, wrapping his arms around Mike and resting his chin over his shoulder until he can feel the fast thump of Mike's heartbeat pounding against his own chest.
Mike shudders. His grip on Will's waist tightens, and he turns his head, his nose brushing against the sensitive skin right below Will's ear.
"I don't think I'd ever get close enough to you."
Or: Will is convinced that moving away for college will starve out his feelings. Instead, it just results in Mike booking a weekend trip to finally close the distance—in every sense of the word.
