Summary
Eddie thinks he's invited the woman of his dreams on a work trip to Barbados, so why does Evan Buckley, a guy he met at his coworker's engagement party, show up instead?
-
“Buck?” It’s Chimney, leaning back from two rows up, “what the hell are you doing here?”
Eddie had been hoping Chimney knew. He glances down at this phone, at the last text he’d received from Evangeline. “On board now.” And yet, she has not appeared to move Buck from her seat. Eddie is beginning to realize, with mounting dread, that she won’t be appearing at all.
“Oh, I think this was supposed to be a surprise!” Buck replies, “I’m Eddie’s date.”
Date. Buck is Eddie’s date. Buck. Evan Buckley. Not Evangeline. Evan. Buckley.

Summary
"You deserve a nice dinner too, Eddie," Buck said. His eyes couldn't leave Eddie's face, not for a second, otherwise he'd miss the way Eddie's face flushed in embarrassment.
"Buck, I'm not going to take away your free food. Get yourself a double portion, dude." Eddie continued trying to get the door to hook in the hinge, grumbling whenever he missed. "I don't need it."
Buck decides to take a different approach than just saying it outright. Flattery. "I really appreciate how much you've been helping me with Theo these past few weeks. If I deserve a nice dinner for all the work I've been doing, then you do too, Eddie. Besides—"
Buck pursed his lips. He felt his face heat up. "I don't want to go alone."
Eddie couldn't stop the snort he made. "That— that makes sense. You know what, sure, Buck, I'll go to dinner with you. Just let me know when, it's a date."
--Buck won a raffle for a free gift card to a new fancy restaurant and gets a little more than what he bargained for when he asks Eddie to accompany him.

Summary
Buck looks at Eddie, and Eddie takes a breath. *Here goes nothing.* "What if Chris and I moved in here? What if we presented ourselves to social services as a couple? Like, romantically involved, committed to each other. It would show them we're a stable household with two parents. It would give Theo the dual household they're looking for without taking him away from you."
Buck's eyes widen, and for a moment he just stares at Eddie like he's lost his mind. "Eddie—no. No, that's—that's insane."
*I knew he'd say that.*
"Hear me out," Eddie says quickly, but Buck is already shaking his head."Hear you out? Eddie, you're talking about *lying* to social services. About pretending to be in a relationship. About—" Buck's voice cracks. "About moving in together. Do you understand how crazy that sounds?"
*It's not that crazy. Is it?*
Chris watches them, his eyes tracking between his dad and Buck like he's watching a tennis match. Except it's not a tennis match—it's two people who are so stupidly in love with each other that they can't even see it.Bookmarked by Rob_8283
