Summary
He doesn't know how or why it started—whether it was some freak mutation of nature or a man-made nightmare—but it was only a little over two years ago that the world went to shit. Authorities initially thought it was a unique strain of rabies, but the animals didn't just go crazy; they mutated.
A deer once felled by a hard strike of a car now twisted and dragged itself back to its feet, running and hunting people down with the aggression and determination of a honey badger. Dogs, once man's best friend, turned into little gremlins from hell, their bodies mangy and jaws unhinged like snakes to take in more of their prey. One was capable of tearing a grown man to shreds in a matter of seconds, the result putting a wood-chipper to shame. Still, it was better than the slow, agonizing death of being eaten alive from the inside out by a demented weasel.

Gojo is just trying to survive in a fucked-up world where the animals have been infected by an unknown virus or disease. While out looking for supplies, he stumbles upon another survivor—a little boy.
