Summary
Volo, a man betrayed by the creature he once worshipped as his God, opens a rift in space and time, hoping to make it answer for its negligence of his suffering and plight.
So when a strange man dressed in delinquent clothes and speaking in the crudest of tongues tumbles out of the rift instead, Volo isn't quite sure what to make of it. He takes the lost stranger, a man named Ronin, under his wing, in hopes he has some connection to the deity he's been searching for since the day it all went wrong.
What he'll discover, however, is something he never thought he'd find in a broken and corrupt world such as this one.

Through the console it communicates through, it tells you its name is ‘Caine.’ You try to tell him your name, but run into some trouble. He never does learn your name, so he settles on certain titles.
‘Angel’ is one of them. That’s how he sees you from his side of the screen, anyway.

When Ky's eyes first flickered open that morning, the first two things he noted was that there was the faint, distant scent of something burning and that a birthday banner had been placed, not so it was on the wall as part of the decoration, but rather so that it was plastered against the door frame as if to block him from exiting.
Within a few minutes of processing this, Ky bolted up out of bed.
