Summary
There was a new distance between them for the final weeks leading up to graduation, and when Deku got on a flight just three days after leaving UA, it became geographic distance too. Katsuki wore his anger at Izuku like armor for years, burying the hurt of being left behind beneath a layer of bitterness. The petty grudge that he’d used to distract himself from the Deku-shaped hole in his life was fairly flimsy to begin with, but it was crumbling under the crushing weight of almost losing him for good.

After Izuku gets injured during a villain attack, Katsuki puts aside their differences and catches the first flight to the USA to make sure he’s okay.

Most twenty-six year olds probably couldn’t predict the weather based on the pain in their joints due to changes in barometric pressure, but Izuku’s heroic exploits as a teen before he’d gotten a handle on One For All led to an abundance of broken bones, scar tissue, and nerve damage that most twenty-six year olds probably also didn’t have. Or: Izuku has chronic pain, and Katsuki is there for him.

Memories of the previous night swam hazily through his mind, of the Hero Billboard Rankings and the beginning of the subsequent afterparty with his friends and coworkers. Izuku smiled as he recalled the stunned look on Katsuki’s face when the announcer told everyone that Deku was Japan’s number one hero. The party afterward had been filled with blurry friendly faces and boisterous congratulations.
