    Summary

Something, equal parts wariness and weariness, stirs in Olruggio’s eyes whenever Qifrey makes some reference to the future — when he indirectly promises a tomorrow, a next week, an ‘after your commissions are done’. It’s the subtlest thing, a flicker, a spark; someone who knew him less well might not pick up on it. But Qifrey knows Olruggio as well as he knows himself, and he can hardly in good conscience begrudge him his flinch of cynicism. Not when it’s wholly his own fault for having put it there.

Fool you once, shame on me. Fool you twice, still shame on me. Fool you thrice… well, if it’s any consolation whatsoever, I was fooling myself most of all.
    -- -- --
The night Qifrey returns to the atelier for good after his wandering days — old promises kept, new promises made.

    Summary

The events of the Battle of Piltover have come and gone, with the twin cities emerging victorious (although not without great cost), and time has kept on turning.

Jayce and Viktor were sucked into the rune, thereby determining the course of the fight...and then sometime later, perhaps a week or a month, maybe more, the capricious Arcane spat them back out at the top of the Hexgates.

Aware of how dangerous it would be for Viktor to be discovered post-Herald, they left Piltover, and have been wandering Runeterra ever since.

In the here and now they come to an unknown town, and follow the crowd to go and see a new performance by a company of Travelling Players.

The play features a dashing romantic hero, and a vile villain. Reactions are mixed to say the least, but then everyone's a critic, no?

    Summary

"Say Qifrey…” Olly rests his crossed arms on the bank. “You don't know how to swim, right?”

Qifrey jolts in place as if struck, pen falling from his grasp. Olruggio surely knows he doesn’t, having saved Qifrey from drowning the first time they met. He also knows how much he loathes water; loathes the sensation of being wet so much he must be coaxed like a feral animal to the baths each week—bribed with the promise of baked goods and adventures—just to keep him from roaming the Great Hall looking like an unkempt vagabond. With Olruggio taking over the task of washing his hair for him as he shudders through it.

Qifrey frowns deeply, not meeting his eye. “...No.”

    --

On a summer day out, Olruggio tries to teach Qifrey how to swim.
