Saiki doesn’t know how long he’ll cling (although 'cling' isn’t quite right, given the deliberate desperation it implies; perhaps 'defer' is a better word) to a youth that doesn’t want or become him. His body seems determined to plod in the same annual cycle, unshakeable. He watches faces narrow, stubble appear, bodies fill out into adulthood. He makes excuses, or lets the excuses make themselves and nods in all the right places ("You’re so baby-faced, Saiki-kun" or, Aiura’s words, "You’ll have to show me what you use on your skin!"). It’s an unforeseen side effect of the time loop, and one he resents. Slowly but determinedly, the world moves forwards - and those he knows (or tolerates) with it.

Hunched over his desk, thinking over the case and what the defense might say or do, a sharp rap of knuckles on his partially open door made him look up. He didn’t even have time to call them to enter, before Chief Prosecutor Edgeworth stepped through.
“Do you still have copies of the files from last week’s trials? There has been an… incident during the transfer.” Edgeworth heaved a sigh, the kind that Klavier knew from experience was likely due to some mishap from a too eager rookie detective.
Klavier opened his mouth to tell him he did, only for nothing more but a weak rasp to leave his lips.

Ouch. Well, he’s known Edgeworth doesn’t beat around the bush, but he had been giving Edgeworth the chance to let the topic go. Evidently, the hint had not been taken.
Klavier’s gaze focused intently on the cup of tea. He could see some of the dark leaves at the bottom of his cup—loose-leaf, then, not that he expected any less from Miles Edgeworth.
He could answer the question. He could tell Edgeworth his brother was still miserable, still in jail, still horrible. He could tell him he misses him, goes to him for advice, tells him his meaningless life updates, as if Kristoph’s still a part of that life. That he wishes he had never listened to him, that he wishes he had never let Apollo uncover the truth. Klavier could be honest, and he could lie, and he doesn’t want to do either.
“Is this not a breach of some kind? This feels out-of-character for you, herr Edgeworth, and I know of your fondness for law,” Klavier grins when he looks back up.
Edgeworth clearly does not find the same amusement in it that Klavier does. Tough crowd.
