Mr J steeples his fingers. “A strategic romance. Temporary, staged, mutually beneficial.”
Zoey inhales so sharply she squeaks. Mira, who knows where all Rumi’s bodies are buried, does not laugh—she just shifts her weight like a boxer checking her stance.
Bobby’s tone goes singsong, which means he’s terrified. “It will be tasteful. Boundaried. Media-trained. The narrative is charming: rivals unite, fans rejoice, both groups humanised, the world heals.”
Rumi feels something like static crawl over her collarbones. “With whom,” she says, feeling each syllable like a step down a staircase in the dark, “am I romantically uniting?”
Mr J does not hesitate. He points with his chin like this is a perfectly normal thing to do.
Jinu lifts his head.

A large, shadowy figure swooped in from behind, grabbing her mid-spin. Kagome landed on her back with a grunt, face-to-face with a demon who clearly thought he was intimidating.
“Really?” she asked, blinking at him. “Because honestly, I don’t think this kidnapping thing is going to work out for you.”
He growled. “Silence, human! You will come with me—”
“I will come with you,” Kagome interrupted sweetly, voice laced with sarcasm, “if you actually think you can keep up with me.”

Summary
The Fourth Shinobi War wasn't going well. Shinobi were dying right-left-and-center. Ono Toshiko had done what she could to avoid it - and failed.
Her little brother had a plan. A fail-safe. A seal attached to her heart, mind, and chakra network so that if his latest knuckle-headed scheme to fix their world failed, there would still be hope.
She agreed but prayed nonetheless that a miracle would occur and after the war was over Naruto would take the seal off of her.
She should have known better.
After all - if there were deities listening, they clearly had no mercy for a reincarnated soul. Especially not enough to *not* force her to do it all over again. Only in a new body, and a new time.

“Satoru!” the black-haired man said cheerfully. “Long time no see.”
The white-haired man froze, and almost right as that happened, the box started to shake.
Kagome’s body moved on instinct. Her gut telling her that something bad was about to happen, her knowledge that she could stop it, her deep conviction the white-haired man deserved to have someone on his side — it all took over, and she couldn't have stopped to think about it if she wanted to.
Just as the box was launching itself forward, she’d stepped in front of it, raising a hand. Her back collided with that of the white-haired man, so she was certain whatever was coming wouldn’t get in contact with him, another unconscious decision. Since she didn’t have anything to channel her energy into, all she could do was raise the staff she’d grabbed earlier. It wasn’t anything much, but she could still push her energy through it, using it to shape it as she wished to.
“Kekkai!”
Or: Kagome is at Shibuya, and one person changes everything.
