Twelve.
Twenty-Nine.
Fifty-Eight.
Four.
These numbers have been so ingrained into my memories as to not even be numbers anymore; rather, concepts, instances in my history that hold value to me.
Say them to me, and I could tell you exactly what they mean. I can tell you what I was thinking when they became important to me, what my body was doing, what was happening around me, even what my individual senses were reporting. I could repeat to you every color that I saw, every surface that I felt, every sound that I heard, but there wouldn’t be all that much to tell you.
After all, the colors I remember most are crimson and gold and platinum…
But these numbers are only important in relation to the instant that they represent. They only hold significance when spoken altogether, not as individual parts, or even in smaller groups.
Because these numbers marked the end of my life.
And the beginning of my freedom.

See, there is an ancient law that even the gods must listen to, the law of free will. If the mortals walking the earth decided Theseus was unworthy of love then there was little the gods could do to change their minds.
At least, not while he was alive. A fancy little loophole, a favor from Time who adored Theseus just as much as the rest of the gods, and Theseus would live once more, now with divine favor bleeding from his skin. The Kingmaker System would ensure he will live to see the end of his fate, to be the greatest king the world has ever known.
But... a small issue. The morality of the gods is much different than the morality of man and the system was designed with their view of morals and what makes a good king in mind.
The descent into depravity is slow but inevitable.
