"You don't remember your alt-mode?" Misfire didn't seem to take offense to being interrupted, which was fair considering half of his dialogue consisted of barrelling through others'. "Did they wipe your memory during the reformat?"
"Dunno," he probably sounded a bit too nonchalant, a bit too resigned to the hand he was dealt, but could you blame him? Misfire appeared to be stunned into a pondering silence. What he did remember was formalities, the basics: name, profession, social and cultural cues, the war. You'd think that something as vital as his damned alt-mode would still be there, but it's as shrouded in mystery as the finer interpersonal details of his life pre K-class reformat. "You know as much as I do."

My FAVORITE Soundwavd/Shockwave fic of all time. I love love LOVE how it's written. Pretty long fic that brought me to tears at times and yet still has its heart-warming moments. Forever on my re-read list even after it reaches its end, whenever that may be.
