Standing alone in the middle of a deserted street in the immediate aftermath of his entire life and world falling apart did not sound like a good time to him. But the TARDIS needed to redecorate and recalibrate, and she seemed to be under the impression that he needed some time to meditate. Which was nonsense, hence his determination to get back in and be anywhere else.
Except.
He was not, in fact, alone on a deserted street.

Summary
To understand social interactions better, Mel makes a spreadsheet cataloging her co-workers responses. She incorporates aspects of others' personalities into her own, noting how they respond. The data is useful and comprehensive and Mel is satisfied with the experiment, so she stops.
Until Frank Langdon shows back up and punches a big hole in her carefully cultivated data.

Frank and Mel are rivals. Not friends. But when Frank shows up to the first day of senior year hot, Mel gets pissed. (Who gave him permission to be hot, certainly not her.) Then she gets worried. (What if he gets distracted.) Or:
“I just think you can do better. I’d hate for you to get distracted.”
“What are you talking about, Melissa?”
“You know exactly what I’m talking about, she gave you her number.”
“She’s going to be gone next week, she asked me to send notes, she knows that I’m the person who understands the material the best.”
“Frank, she asked you for notes? Whenever someone asks you for them, you say notes are for losers who forget things.” He laughed, before looking her up and down and fixing her with an intense stare.

Her eyes met his once more, trying to get a read on him- he assumed. Her eyebrow raised in question like she was skeptical of his reaction. “Well, I was hoping to use an actual person, so it would mainly be you sitting in a chair in front of me, facing my camera…” He nodded quickly in acknowledgment. “As I run my fingers through your hair, recording all the sounds.”
His bravado dropped instantly. “My sounds?”
A perplexed expression on her face, she spoke nervously. “What sounds?”
If she thought she was running her slender fingers through his hair and expecting him to NOT moan, she really didn’t know what was headed her way. Her blush deepened on her cheeks as her eyes dropped to her feet.
