Summary
Shane Hollander desperately needs to disappear.
After a spectacularly awful week, a remote Yorkshire cottage seems like the perfect place to hide from the press, rediscover himself, and drink an irresponsible amount of tea.
Unfortunately, the cottage isn't empty.
The Russian stranger insists it’s his, but Shane has paperwork that says otherwise.
It's just after midnight, there's a storm outside, the roads are probably flooded, and the only available weapon is a stuffed fish.
Clearly, this is all Svetlana's fault.
They're both convinced the cottage belongs to them and they're both refusing to leave.

Summary
In another person, we sometimes glimpse something startlingly familiar.
And in that moment, however briefly, the world can feel a little more like home.---
Fox myths are common in Japan and Russia, not that Shane or Ilya really believe those stories say anything about them or their fox daemon.
A daemon is supposed to be a unique reflection of the soul. But around the world are mythic stories of rivals, enemies, and lovers whose daemons reflect one another and the way it changes their lives forever.
When they meet outside the rink in Saskatchewan, neither of them can ignore the fact that they can't quite tell their daemon apart, nor the one difference that stares back at them from the other daemon's eyes.
OR Shane and Ilya have nearly identical daemons, which should be impossible and everyone—especially Shane—is very normal about this.

Unfortunately for him, absolutely no one believes him.
The more serious Ilya gets about his Totally Real Canadian Boyfriend™️, the more concerned his teammates become that someone either needs to call MTV and get him on the next episode of Catfish or that he's slowly losing his mind.
Shane Hollander is, fortunately, very real, very sarcastic, and increasingly delighted that an entire NHL locker room seems to think that he's a government psyop to distract Ilya from his game.
