Summary
Months on from Jude's last encounter with Erling in the Miami Winner's Room, he still can't stop thinking about Erling calling Ajer and all the promises he made. It's only once Erling adds Jude to Norway's National Team alternative chat and Martin presents the men with a very tempting offer that Jude realises he really might be about to get everything he wants.
The sound that escapes him isn’t human, he doesn’t think. He really might black out with how aroused he is just at the thought. On a good day the team might be able to stop Norway getting on the scoreboard at all, but that involves a lot of things lining up.
Realistically, at least Erling will be fucking him in the Winner’s Room.
With that kind of motivation, though?
With a trembling hand, he clicks on the information bar for the chat and counts the numbers. There’s nine people in the chat, including him and Erling. Seven other Norwegian players Erling’s just offered him up to.
It’s not even Erling that’s offering, he realises as he reads the messages again. It’s Martin. Like he’s literally some kind of reward for the team if they work hard enough.

Summary
Four messages greeted him on the screen. Jude read them twice. No jokes. No insults. Not even a smug remark about the state Erling had left him in. Erling had never worried about waking him before, particularly when he wanted another round in the middle of the night. Apparently, saying goodbye was where consideration of Jude’s sleep schedule became important.
Or regret was.
Fine. Jude regretted it too.
Not Erling. The timing. The bruises. The fact that now, in three days’ time they were supposed to stand on opposite sides of a World Cup quarter-final and pretend neither of them knew what the other sounded like with his face pressed into a hotel pillow. When had understanding Erling become this difficult? At Dortmund, Erling had filled every available space, and Jude had never needed to search for hidden meaning in anything he said or did.
Now, Jude had four messages and no idea what any of them meant.
At least they had no punctuation. That felt reassuringly normal.
OR
Erling sneaks into Jude's hotel and they have extremely competitive sex, leaving Jude unable to run three days before the World Cup quarter final. Everybody handles this badly, not least Thomas Tuchel.

Summary
The price of a kingdom in ruins mostly falls on Jude to pay. It is a burden and a duty he was always ready to carry. The price of being forced to marry into a loveless relationship for the sake of wealth and alliances also mostly falls on Jude to pay. It is a burden he disagrees with but has surrendered himself to. The price of Northmen invading his shores, however? Whether he is able to pay or not, it is a particular burden Jude could never have fully prepared for.

Summary
Nobody else had burrowed under his skin like Haaland had. He was so far from his usual type, so friendly and stoic and cool-headed. God, Jude had liked him so much. He’d spent years making such a tit of himself trying to impress him, and what kept him on the backfoot was that he hadn’t needed to - Haaland had been his rock from the moment he joined the club. It was so easy, so effortless to slip into a routine, it unsettled Jude as much as it thrilled him. But he hadn’t liked how small Haaland made him feel. How out of control. The man was unflappable, impossible to provoke. Jude resented his own infatuation, the ever-swelling bubble of fondness he nursed for Erling, because he had no idea how to be with a man who didn’t fight back.
[The quarter-final looms. Jude hasn't seen Erling since their Dortmund days, and he still hasn't come to terms with his sexuality. Or his fondness for getting folded in half.]

Summary
"I like it more knowing your mouth’s been on it.”
Jude tries not to noticeably flip his lid. Why’s Erling have to be such a flirt? "Join the fanclub, mate.”
“Who’d you think started it?” Erling says. He takes a whiff where the inner collar is still damp, a splotch of darker gray in the shape of Jude’s mouth. “Whew. You’d make more than your transfer fee putting this up on eBay.”
“Ta,” Jude says weakly.
Something’s wrong with the English national team: Kane’s sick, Declan’s sick, fucking Tuchel's sick, and before anyone can get them sorted they’ve been knocked out the bracket and sent packing for Europe. It’s only after pre-season training begins that Jude learns not only is he the lucky one the problem followed home, but also that the lads are right as rain now that they’re a country away from him—and worst of all, that all the way over in Manchester, Enzo Maresca’s at his wit’s end and pointing the finger at the one person Jude’s Flo has to remind him monthly to block.
