He leans in and envelops his old… something around the shoulders, hoping with every fiber of his being Izuku doesn’t do the smart thing and push him away. He never did before, but it has been eleven years; maybe he finally wizened up, grew a backbone. Katsuki wouldn’t blame him. Might be proud, even.
But some things remain unaffected by the passage of time: The sun will always rise in the east. Flour, yeast, salt, and water will always make bread. And, evidently, Izuku Midoriya will always receive whatever Katsuki Bakugou is willing to give.

And it’s finally quiet, in the hospital. Dark enough without the overhead lights that the entire wing feels calm and his body doesn’t twitch uncomfortably at the constant surveillance he’s under during the day. It’s quiet, and he’s alone.
Every day that he’s been out of surgery, that’s about the moment Izuku shows up.
He’s less and less unprepared for the sound of his door being opened at this hour, the mechanical click from the handle and the heavy, low squeak of the panel shifting slowly ajar. It’s been about a week, now. Even the first time, Katsuki had a hard time feeling the shock he tells himself he maybe should have.
Instead, like every other time, he feels relief.
