Summary
All Gold knows is the dark.
She remembers being scared of the dark when she was little, but that fear was more of the unknown. That fear could be fixed with a light in the hallway and a hug from her dad.
Now, she's no longer scared of what the dark hides. Because nothing could be scarier than the dark itself.
The dark is alive and it squirms and it feels like a cross between bugs and tentacles as it worms its way down her throat when she breathes and it doesn't leave when she tries to gag it out. It curls its way into her tear ducts and her pores and no matter how much she tears at it her skin it only goes deeper, tugging on every letter and number that makes up her code, mixing them up, wrapping them in its own ink. It brushes across her skin and her hair with razor-sharp corners and its buzzing, glitching pain in a cruel imitation of the way her dad used to when she was scared.
She is trapped within the dark.
And the dark revels in it.
