    Summary

When Mrs Reynolds officiously informs Darcy that she will not continue on at Pemberley if he brings his termagant of a cousin, Anne, to be its Mistress, Darcy is forced to realise that his view of duty has been dictating his entire life--and he is miserable.

"I am sure your mother and father would not wish you to sacrifice your future felicity on the altar of family duty!" she tells him boldly. "Do you not have a duty to Pemberley, to Miss Darcy, and, forgive me for being so bold, to yourself, sir?"

He decides his faithful housekeeper is right. He is allowed to choose--the colour of his waistcoats, what he eats for supper, and ultimately, his own bride!

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Bennet has been striving with blood, sweat, and tears to maintain some of her family's respectability, but with her mother's decline, her father's indolence, and her home farm's desperate drainage problems, it is only a matter of time before she breaks under the strain of it all.

Will the arrival of a certain landowner from Derbyshire relieve her burdens at last? Or will the officious interference of his noble relations keep them apart?

    Summary

Elizabeth Bennet always liked drawing, but her mother considered it an unnecessary skill for a young lady. Her father, thankfully, disagreed. ~~~
When Mr. Bennet passes away the family hopes rest on Jane. Elizabeth introduces her sister to eligible men by using her as a chaperone when she is commissioned to paint at grand estates.
Meanwhile, after a disastrous season in London, Georgiana retreats to Pemberley determined to think of nothing but music until the day she dies. Anne dreads her upcoming marriage to Darcy. Lady Catherine de Bourgh begins a ruthless campaign to bring her niece back into the social fray, and her daughter into Darcy's life. Her first step is to have Georgiana’s portrait painted, to be displayed at Rosings Park. Elizabeth is unwittingly brought into the centre of Georgiana and Anne’s plans for freedom.
