The exhaustion from his shift the day before and the ever-present dark cloud hovering over the Diaz house is wearing his patience thin, try as he might to stop it from doing so. It also doesn’t help that he has been fighting to stay pleasant against a teenager’s stormy attitude for the past… however many days. Buck has lost count. Everything since Eddie went missing has been an awful blur.

“I- What?” Buck falters, not entirely sure he heard Tommy correctly.
“You wanted to talk about it. We’re not doing this over the phone. Come over.”
The call ends with a short beep, leaving Buck sitting there thoroughly confused. He jabs at Tommy’s contact again, pulling up another call. It barely rings once before clicking over to Tommy’s voicemail.
Buck huffs, getting up to go find a pair of shoes and locate his keys.
Fine. If Tommy wants to talk in person, they can talk in person.

Like totally normal people.
God, Tommy’s such an asshole sometimes.

“Eddie? It’s 1:15 in the morning, what’s wrong?” Buck’s voice is rough with sleep, but the worried edge is clear. Eddie doesn’t normally call him at this hour, so this has to be something serious, right? Hell, Eddie’s not normally awake at this hour if he doesn’t have to be. Something has to be wrong.
“Can you come over? I…” Eddie trails off, sniffing softly. The sound breaks Buck’s heart a little bit. “I don’t want to be alone right now.”

“This was not a good idea.”
Tim huffs a low laugh that lands somewhere between exasperation and mirth. “Well, you did think the world was about to end.”
Lucy's mouth falls agape.
“Me?” The exclamation cuts through the store a little louder than she intends. “It was your idea to start drinking.” She begins to pace, every footstep feeling strange, and her panic ratchets up surprisingly fast. “How do we get back to the station? We can’t drive, and we can’t exactly get our co-workers to come pick us up.”
“Definitely not,” Tim agrees, setting his bottle next to hers. “We’d get fired on the spot.”
“Then what do we do?”
“Uh…” He glances out the window like the world outside has any answers. “I guess we walk.”

Tim just shrugs coyly, taking the stem of his glass between his fingers. “I might’ve put a request on the booking. We’re here to celebrate, after all.”
He lifts his glass in a toast, and Lucy can already feel herself getting teary-eyed.
“To Mid-Wilshire’s newest sergeant,” he says. “I already know you’re going to be the best of us.”

Summary
They’re supposed to be enjoying the bliss of being engaged, celebrating the concept of forever. But she barely got time to process the new weight on her finger before feeling the sharp sting in her neck.
And now, Lucy looks at her ring, and…
It’s not that she doesn’t love it. She does, she really does. Even before she knew what was about to happen, she’d been trying to commit that perfect moment to memory, and she’d said as much to Tim.
But now, the memory is clouded and blurred, viewed through a haze of sedatives. The sunset is marred with black spots, the crash of waves drowned out by the ringing in her ears and the distorted talk of payback, as one of the happiest moments of their lives grinds to a halt.

They both head for the driver-side door, and Lucy’s shoulder crashes into his arm as they come to an abrupt stop.
“I have the keys,” Lucy says, holding them up between her thumb and forefinger.
“I’m the one that drives,” Tim counters.
She narrows her eyes at him. “I would’ve been driving if you hadn’t wanted to ride with me today.”
They stare each other down for a few moments, but Tim concedes before long, because she does have a point. “Fine.”
He slinks around to the passenger side as Lucy pulls her door open, grinning at her victory.

I was asked to write a one shot centered around a very pregnant Lucy dragging Tim to a store in the middle of the night to fulfil a late-night craving. While they're shopping, the store they're at gets robbed and the two of them become hostages. During all the chaos, Lucy's water breaks so Tim ends up having to juggle how to keep Lucy safe and getting them out of there safety without escalating the situation.
