Summary
The ether howled, and reality made to adapt to yet another sudden change in the tapestry of the future.
The world had done so before and would do so again, like it always had to when parts of its fabric were taken and erased from existence, demanding a fresh well of ink for the play’s pages yet to be written.
The current part of the spectacle hadn’t ended the way its director had desired. An actor quite obstreperous had decided to go off-script, to not take her leave off the stage, and the performance was in dire need of adjustment, lest the audience be dissatisfied and the curtains drawn.
A small intermission, then on with the show!
Yet another expectation not coming to pass.

Asa Mitaka hated Christmas.
It was nothing more than a commercialized scam meant to force people to spend more money than they had on things they didn't need or else they would feel bad about themselves. She had never bought into it, and had no intention of ever doing so.

Summary
Logically, Himeno knew that Aki retaining his mind after being turned into a fiend had been nothing short of a miracle. She knew that his revival was the greatest stroke of luck that she was ever going to get, that his status as the snake fiend was something that should make her want to weep with joy, if only because the alternative was far, far worse.
It was hard to remember that sometimes. That awareness fled in the moments when she took in his new appearance and had to consciously remind herself that he was still Aki. It vanished when someone said something to remind her that she hadn’t moved in with Aki, Denji, and Power because she had been invited, but because she was their new handler. It cut deepest at the times when she looked at Aki, forever trapped in Public Safety and stripped of human rights, and wondered if he might have been better off if he’d stayed dead.
She never let those thoughts linger for long.
