    Bookmarker's Notes

I liked this fic. These two worlds were combined very well together and the way most of the characters are written feels like they were taken from the Owl House and put in Panem. The development of the three main relationships is also done very well and even though I feel they all could have used one more chapter to fully flesh out what each of the characters mean to each other by the end of the fic, I think that where they do end up does make sense.

Despite all of that though, the fic does have some issues. For starters while I understand that most of these characters are not strictly American in the show they are definitely not British and the use of British English throughout (specifically the constant use of the word “reckon”) was a real immersion breaker and made me wince every time it happened. On top of that the author mentions Taylor Swift a lot in their author’s notes and apparently references her music throughout the story, something that will get on your nerves if you consider her to be an unethical loser like myself.

In the face of what the fic gets right these should be minor issues but by the end of it were so grating that I almost dropped it because of them. I stuck with it though and if you also manage to (or if these things don’t bother you in the first place) I promise you will enjoy your time with this.

    Summary

At sixteen, Catra and Adora run away to join the military, hoping to escape their abusive foster home. At eighteen, they’re recruited into the Special Forces. At twenty-one, they’re sent on a suicide mission that will supposedly end a thirty-year war. Neither of them expects to survive, but they do. Their friendship doesn’t.

Adora hasn’t seen Catra since that fateful day five years ago. Now a teacher, (and infamous ex-war hero) at Brightmoon School, she knows the new Literature teacher a little too well. A lot has happened in five years, but Adora is set on fixing a broken promise from long ago.

However, with their troubled past, scarred present, and a new threat called ‘Prime’ rising to power, it seems they might also have to fight for their future.

or, you've read the college AUs, so here's the angsty, tragic-backstory teaching AU no one asked for.
