Summary
Peter Parker was not an orphan. The state had him labelled as such, but he had a biological dad. It wasn't his fault that dad just happened to be the most famous man on the planet, and so no one believed him.
When his current foster home became completely unlivable, Peter planted himself in his social worker's office and demanded she at least contact Tony. All Peter needed was a safe place to sleep and food to eat. That was it. He could stay completely out of the way of Tony's bachelor lifestyle. The less oversight he had, the more freedom he had to be Spider-Man, anyway.
But Peter was left with way more than he bargained for when Tony, along with his secret wife and daughter, agreed to take him in on the spot. All Peter wanted was food and the freedom to be Spider-Man. What he got was a family, and parents that paid far too much attention to him.
Peter felt like he was suffocating, while Tony insisted this was just how family worked. How could Peter be Spider-Man, if his new parents never let him out of their sight?

Summary
Peter is six when his mother's plane goes down over Germany. Four days later, Tony Stark, a father he's met exactly three times, shows up to take him home.
Tony buys him a shark. He rents out an entire amusement park. He promises pancakes, chess lessons, a code to the workshop and a phone call every Sunday. In the back of a notebook, Peter keeps a list of every time his father says he'll show up and doesn't, because if you write it down, it can't surprise you.
Then Tony doesn't come home from Afghanistan at all.
A story about a kid who teaches himself not to need anyone, a father learning how to show up, and the long, rocky road they're going down.
Author's note: This story overlaps with the Iron Man movies and I plan to go through to post Endgame, but I wont be rehashing movie scenes.

Tony Stark finds out he's a father when his son is dropped off on his doorstep. Wanting him to maintain a normal life, free from the public eye, he has him raised in secret. After the deaths of May and Benjamin Parker, Peter is moved to live with Tony.
What Tony doesn't know is that most of Peter's scrapes and bruises don't come from being bullied, but from his escapades as Spider-Man.
What the Avengers don't know is that Tony Stark is hiding a son in the tower.
