Summary
Rationally, Kaveh shouldn’t ask Alhaitham if he wants Kaveh to help him. He really shouldn’t. Sex could ruin this peace treaty they have non-verbally contracted between them. Sex could mean things will get horribly, terribly awkward. Sex would mean that Kaveh would never be able to look at Alhaitham without thinking of the memory of Alhaitham’s hands all over his body.
“Have you really thought this through?” Alhaitham asks once again, and he hasn’t sounded this serious since his offer to house Kaveh so many moons ago.
“This is my fault, as you said. I should take responsibility.” Kaveh weakly replies, licking his lips nervously. “Right?”

Al-Haitham watched as the door clicked shut after Panah’s retreating figure. Then he turned back towards his desk, his bright gaze settling over the parcel once more. There it sat, looming at the edge of his desk like an ominous plot device; he couldn’t help but wonder if its curious contents would be even worth half the trouble, and the possibility it may unleash yet another unknown and iniquitous terror upon the world.
A chance discovery of an old relic had piqued Al-Haitham and Kaveh's curiosity enough to investigate its cryptic inscriptions. Seeking clues in the desert, Kaveh and Faruzan find themselves trapped within a domain, while an injured Al-Haitham and flustered Paimon battle their way through the ruins to help rescue their companions.

Once he’d secured the harness around himself, Al-Haitham finally glances over. He meets the concern that’s flushed over Kaveh’s features with the faintest glimmer of a smile; a steady reassurance.
Kaveh blinks, caught off guard by the unexpected smile. Then, he exhales, and asks, once more: “Are you certain about this? You don’t have to be the one to race. I’m the one who built this craft, I’m more than familiar—”
“Much more certain than you are.” Al-Haitham replies. “Besides, did you forget that I've to be the one to win this race? That’s part of Nahida’s bet with Sangemah Bay. No need to worry—I’ll be fine.” He pulls the goggles over his eyes as he nods at the mechanic, a glint of wry amusement in his gaze. “Jedi reflexes are a lot quicker than most, after all.”
“You…” Kaveh’s expression sours at that, his concern morphing into indignation. “Who said I was worrying about you!? It’s the Pod I’m really concerned about! I’ve just about perfected the engine efficiency and thruster stabilisers, so don’t you go crashing it beyond repair!”

I am such a sucker for them overcoming their differences and apologizing. but the real star of this fic was Kusanali, I think. from the elemental skill quotes to the "take a d—" lmao I was stifling my laughter the whole time she was on screen. reading this fic saved my sanity while I've been sick in bed, and I will absolutely be rereading it in the future

Summary
Kaveh has achieved so much today, it should be fine to do this much for himself. It should be fine to enjoy this much. There is absolutely nothing that Al-Haitham could possibly do to ruin this day!
Of course, this is when Al-Haitham chooses to walk in covered in blood.
Kaveh has enough troubles on his plate even without dealing with his confusing relationship with and unfortunately lingering feelings for his stubborn, infuriating roommate. But when a strange conspiracy begins closing in on Al-Haitham and threatening the precarious balance of their daily lives, Kaveh finds himself having to reevaluate the nature of their relationship and reckon with the ghosts of the past.

There’s never really a good time, way, or reason to tell Kaveh about his long-lived, amoral, exiled, criminal ex-partner — who, Al-Haitham will note, was not any of those things at the time they were involved.
However, there is definitely a worst way for Kaveh to find out.
