Summary
They sit in the sand for awhile after the sun is well over the horizon, even though they always regret it later. The sun shines brightly, and Jeremy supposes that bodes well for the kind of year coming up. He puts a hand on his heart and exhales deeply. He’s lucky to see this and feels a little embarrassed about how dramatic he’s being about it, even if it’s to himself. But it’s the truth: the sun rose again, and Jeremy is okay, and sometimes life sucks for a few months and you don’t know how to manage it. Jeremy has been through worse than this with much less, and it’s the new year, and he’ll make it different.
It’s fine. Jeremy Knox is not going through anything, actually. But if you were going through it, and you wanted to handle it the way Jeremy would, here’s the advice he’d give you:
- Avoid ever thinking about your problems (try to do this successfully)
- Angst in bathrooms, not in public
- Show everyone you’re fine by doing things almost exactly as you would normally
- Lie about it until the lie becomes true enough (try to do this successfully)

Summary
Jeremy was used to helping Jean with his sensory overload, but he was not used to it being the other way around. He had gotten good at managing the noises that were always around him, but Jean, coming from the quiet of the Nest, hadn’t. He didn’t know the tricks that Jeremy picked up in his time at USC, though he was more than happy to learn them. Jeremy even bought him noise cancelling headphones to match his own. They seemed to be working well enough.
