“You owe me,” Michael says, very seriously, as though they’re negotiating a contract.
“I owe you nothing.” Yoichi plants a hand on his chest and pushes, firm enough to create space but gentle enough that they both know he could have pushed harder. Michael steps back, grinning, and Yoichi turns to pull the toast from the toaster, dropping two slices onto each plate and reaching for the butter. “You’re a grown man. Handle your own disappointment.”
