“Honestly,” Sonic says, gaze drifting toward Shadow, who was busy sifting through and organizing the medicine storage box, “I didn’t expect you to be this good at this kinda stuff.”
“Hmph.” With a click, Shadow shut the lid of the box. “You are hardly the first sick person I’ve cared for. And I do prefer to win our races without the Doctor’s machinations interfering.” Placing a comforting hand on his chest, Shadow gives him a soft smile. “Rest. We wouldn’t want to aggravate your migraine or…” a smirk flashes across his face, “warts.”
Sonic groans. “You’re never gonna let me live that down, are you.”
After another mission at an Eggman base, Sonic's having a bit of a problem regarding drowsiness and headaches. Naturally, Shadow tries his best to assist, even as Sonic's symptoms seem to get more and more aggravated.

i'm sooo in love w/ this i'm going nuts. both works are good & i love how the second fic expands on the first one (and i loved seeing how shadow's mind works like anon u get it… i loved the parts where he'll say something and the next/previous lines will be like Shadow is lying through his teeth rn. hegdjgeyshs so good)

One fragment from If Not, Winter stuck with him constantly. It crossed his mind in random moments, when he stood staring at the trees trying to grasp that they were real.
Because I prayed this word: I want.
He found himself scrawling it in the corner. He almost erased it. He thought better about it. Maybe he wanted Sonic to see it, to understand it. He didn’t know why. He didn’t know if it even made sense here. He wanted what Sonic wanted.
When Sonic flipped it over, his heart stopped. He hadn’t really expected something to be on the back, it was more of a curtesy that he checked. And it was written so faintly, so small along the bottom.
Because I prayed this word: I want.
It made his blood cold.
He really wished Shadow hadn’t said that.

Sonic blinks, the pain having evaporated so fast he feels almost weightless. “Shadow?”
Shadow’s breathing heavily. “Problem.”
The retrieval of the ancient tech Shadow (and Sonic, in tow) has been sent to uncover takes a turn for the worst. In this case, the “worst” means… becoming physically and inextricably linked to each other. For the foreseeable future.

Sonic is 100% sure there's nothing weird happening at the generic corporate coffee shop, even if Eggman is buying up all the restaurants to create a food chain monopoly. He'd much rather spend his time playing video games and taking the occasional delivery order to mess with the only barista on the island, but Amy is convinced there's something fishy going on.
