It would have been nice if he had realized this more than three hours before he was supposed to print out the boring form needed for his boring Canadian citizenship application, but this will not be a problem for Ilya Rozanov. He has found the perfect, boring, Canadian solution: a public library.
Or: Shane Hollander, occasional glasses-wearer, fell in love with the Dewey Decimal System, and took an oath to serve every patron that walks through the Ottawa Library's doors in their pursuit of knowledge, even if that patron is kind of a dick.

It was Hollander’s absence that had created this void. It wasn’t that Ilya had even cared, before. A quick thrill, that both knew would end. But then, Hollander had hijacked Ilya’s life, refashioned it in his own image, shaped it to fit the empty space he left in his wake. It was terribly cruel, the immeasurable impact that human beings could have on one another. Even more cruel, to walk away from the mess you had created, as Hollander had. At least have the decency to make it mean something.
After a nervous collapse, Shane Hollander returns home to the Foothills of Alberta, only to be brought back into contact with the man he left behind, six years prior.

"Show me." He says again, and your eyes widen, a fiery blush crawling up your neck, and painting your skin redder than the ripest tomato. You can't believe this is happening. Surely he's caught on by now.
He knows exactly what he's asking of you.
"I… I uhm, w-well, I don't know if this is the best place to do so…" You stutter awkwardly, eyes darting around the forest nervously. There's no one in sight, and you don't detect any chakra outside of your own and Shino's. Still, anyone could show up at any time.
"Can't risk it." He says, and relief washes over you but only briefly.
"That's what I mean-"
"Waking up." He cuts you off as he firmly grabs you by the waist, pulling you flush against him and you let out an undignified noise in bewilderment. “I always wake up at the best part.” His breath is uneven when he kisses you again, and the damp heat of his mouth sends a shiver down your spine, making a familiar yet different kind of dampness gather between your legs.

They’d reached the door up to her quarters, and Krem gently moved her arm from his shoulder, tipping her against the doorframe instead. He made sure she was balanced, and perhaps his hand lingered a second longer on her waist than was necessary, but it was out of diligence, not anything else. Of course not.

You kill a guy you've known and worked with for years just because he had a grand idea to rob a bank behind your boss' back. Then, you plan to shoot down the guy you've taken under your wing years ago just because he decided to join in on the bank robbery the next morning. And you had this grand scheme of doing the whole shooting in an art gallery too.
Don't all friends resolve problems by shooting and killing each other?
(In which Sam does what he does best - swallow all his emotions and pretend they just don't exist.
