Rin knows from the minute she steps into Venka's lavish apartment that she has made a mistake.
She shouldn't be here. There are waiters ferrying around flutes of champagne, a coat check, and a fully serviced bar. A distinguished-looking older gentleman sits at a grand piano, filling the room with soft jazz. The party swirls around her, shifting uncomfortably in a dress she can't afford.

Nezha is hiding in the kitchen.
He had been accosted by people the moment he’d stepped into Venka’s apartment. People he barely knew, desperate to make a good impression on him for even one good word to his father, one mention of their names to a board of directors.
He can't take it anymore.
