Summary
Six months after the Demon King’s defeat, Link and Zelda are out of rhythm with the recovering Hyrule and one another. Zelda struggles to focus on her reconstruction projects, a part of her still stuck in the past with the remnants of war she left behind, while Link shuts himself away preparing for a future that may never come to pass.
When, one day, Link finds himself unable to wield the Master Sword, the two of them are thrust into the dilemma of what exactly that means, and how they want to deal with it.
After all—when your world has ended twice before, how do you let yourself carry on?

In all its sleek, shining newness, the temple holds an unsettling echo. Each footstep within lands with a clatter; every whisper is transformed into a roar. Not since his days of delving through dungeons has Link been so conscious of the sound he is making. The beat of his heart fills his ears, and he finds himself reminded of the Hyrule Castle of old—the echoes that pealed from its frozen antiquity.
It felt wrong, back then—to leave Tetra in the basement of that place. It feels wrong to leave her here, now.

This is a truthful story, for the most part. In the sense that it’s a story where I’ve endeavoured to tell you some truth: to be candid to you, and to myself, on some level. Of course, some details might be garbled, might very well be made up. This is a legend, after all. And legends aren’t exactly known for their factual veracity.
For all I know, the princess of this story might be an apocryphal princess: another fiction to feature, rather senselessly, among uncountably many fictions. For all I know, she might be wandering by your side, still drifting, still searching, still unmoored in all her myriad lives.
Because listen: in this story, Princess Zelda briefly broke free from time.
