Marcia had never met anyone as real to her as Two-Bit Matthews.
No one she’d ever met before could keep up with her like he could. Randy was a sweet boy, but simple, certainly not the sharpest knife in the drawer. He liked her long hair and her pretty face, found her tangents cute because he never understood a word she said or ever tried to really listen. But Two-bit Matthews had laughed at every one of her jokes, not because he was being polite, but because he’d found her funny. He didn’t miss a single one of her quips, the ones that went right over Randy’s head. Instead he’d met them with witty remarks of his own, his sterling grey eyes shining.
