Summary
“Mr. and Mrs. Langdon?” she calls.
The couple’s heads swivel in unison until they land on her, and the woman’s anxious expression drops into a frown. It’s not quite the reaction Mel is expecting, but she is a stranger. She doesn’t know what Frank has told them about her, if he’s shown them her picture or anything. They’re probably just wondering how she knows who they are.
“Hi.” She sticks out her hand for the man to shake. “I’m Dr. Melissa King. I’m a… friend of Frank’s. I can get you your visitor’s passes and take you back to see him…”
Mr. Langdon gives her hand a perfunctory shake. But when Mel turns to his wife, she just looks Mel up and down, her lips pressed into a thin line, as Mel stands there, toes curling up tight inside her sneakers and her shoulders creeping up to her ears.
“Oh, we know who you are,” Frank’s mom says, voice loud enough to carry over the din of the waiting room. “You’re the whore who stole our son away from the mother of his children.”

Summary
The absolute last thing Jack intended to do was get involved with whatever middle-school two-step courting dance Langdon and King had going on. So, of course, he accidentally steps right into it.

Summary
Whatever Langdon and King were doing was between them. Besides, reporting them to HR seemed like a big pile of unnecessary paperwork she didn’t have the time or energy to fill out.
Or: Five times Mel and Frank's colleagues turned a blind eye to their relationship and the one time they didn't

Summary
Mel King was a creature of habit.
There was a specific sort of choreography to her life beyond the chaos of the Emergency Department. A carefully controlled routine, a color-coded calendar, a rigid set of rituals that kept her grounded enough to keep showing up day after day, to keep on doing the work that was required of her to save lives.
Everything was going fine for Mel. Her personal life was predictable, unexciting, and perfectly fulfilling, thank you very much.
Enter Frank Langdon, agent of chaos.

Summary
They were friends.
And yeah, maybe the ring on his finger sort of burned when he looked at her sometimes, even though it was just for show, now.
It was just easier to let her keep thinking he was still married to Abby. Safer.
It raised less eyebrows about the nature of their friendship when the ring stayed on while he was at work, the weight on his finger reminding him not to say or do anything stupid.
It also made it a little less creepy when the pet names started slipping out.
